A recent IDC InfoBrief, Mission-Critical Software, Delivered: Harnessing the Synergy of Low Code and GenAI, reveals that AI and low-code development platforms are driving rapid application development and modernization across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. Sponsored by OutSystems, the report highlights that 40% of net-new applications in APAC will incorporate generative AI (GenAI) by 2026, creating “intelligent apps” to enhance user experiences and unlock new functionality.
With over 60% of APAC applications currently based on legacy systems, companies face challenges from outdated architectures, high maintenance costs, and talent shortages. In response, 68% of APAC enterprises are adopting modern development tools, including low-code platforms, to streamline processes and increase productivity.
Low-code platforms integrated with AI automate complex tasks and boost developer productivity, making them crucial for legacy modernization. Already, 25% of APAC enterprises, especially in Australia, India, Japan, and Southeast Asia, are prioritizing GenAI in developer tools. AI integration enables teams to focus on high-value tasks and accelerate delivery timelines—benefits that resonate across the region as companies seek to maintain competitiveness in a rapidly evolving market.
IDC forecasts a strong future for low-code, projecting that one-third of APAC businesses view it as a critical tool for automation and innovation. Southeast Asia and Hong Kong lead in prioritizing low code for operational efficiency, followed by India and Australia. With budgets increasingly resilient to economic pressures, 30% of APAC firms are willing to pay a premium for GenAI capabilities in development environments. As noted by IDC’s Dhiraj Pramod Badgujar, the AI-low-code synergy is helping APAC organizations accelerate software release cycles, enhance productivity, and better meet market demands.
