Consumer confidence rises as inflation dips to 20yr-low in Malaysia
The Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (Fomca) has urged the government to provide clear details and regular updates on Budget 2026 cost adjustments, warning that general assurances are insufficient.
Chief executive Saravanan Thambirajah stressed the need to safeguard staffing, essential medicines, emergency care, and critical treatments. Concerns follow the Finance Ministry’s proposal to reduce operating expenditure by RM5.4 billion across health and higher education, including a RM3.06 billion cut to the Health Ministry.
The Galen Centre for Health and Social Policy warned the move could cripple public healthcare, while Fomca highlighted risks of medicine shortages, equipment issues, and reduced frontline staff, which would directly affect patient care and service quality.
