On March 31, 2025, in Geelong, Australia, Airbus and Australian start-up Drone Forge signed a Letter of Intent to collaborate on deploying the Flexrotor uncrewed aerial system (UAS) across the Asia-Pacific.
This partnership aims to revolutionize tactical aviation with the VTOL Flexrotor, a 25 kg aircraft designed for ISTAR missions lasting 12-14 hours, ideal for defence, security, and parapublic tasks like forest fire surveillance and ice navigation.
Airbus’ William Sampson highlighted its crewed-uncrewed teaming potential, while Drone Forge’s Thomas Symes emphasized delivering proven, safe solutions. A new UAS service centre in Perth will support this expansion, targeting commercial, government, and defence sectors.
