Alibaba Cloud has launched the KaryaWAN AI Challenge, a nationwide initiative aimed at accelerating artificial intelligence adoption and nurturing Malaysia’s next generation of digital innovators. Supported by the National AI Office, the programme aligns with the country’s ambition of becoming an AI Nation by 2030.
The challenge is powered by Alibaba Cloud’s Wan2.7 video generation model and encourages creators, developers, filmmakers and AI enthusiasts to explore AI-driven storytelling and practical industry applications. Participants will compete for RM24,000 in cash prizes and trophies, with winners scheduled to be announced at the end of June 2026.
According to National AI Office head Sam Majid, initiatives such as KaryaWAN are important in transforming national AI strategies into real-world capabilities by enabling talent to innovate and experiment. Meanwhile, Alibaba Cloud Malaysia general manager Choong Hon Keat said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to empowering local talent through accessible AI technologies.
The programme is also supported by community and industry partners, including PeKA, Prompters Malaya, Loomi Entertainment Group, Morphyx.io, TabSpace and chat.officio.work.
