The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA), led by president-elect Dr Thirunavukarasu Rajoo, revealed that 30% of Malaysian doctors fall within the B40 low-income category, challenging the notion that doctors are affluent. Speaking at a Putrajaya protest on May 6, 2025, Thirunavukarasu cited a 2018 study showing only 10% of doctors are economically successful, 30% just get by, and 30% are “below the water.” The protest opposed the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering (Price Marking for Drugs) Order 2025, effective May 1, which mandates medicine price displays.
