ASEAN must mobilise significantly larger capital flows and strengthen cross-border partnerships to accelerate its energy transition, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said. He stressed that the region cannot meet climate goals without coordinated financing and deeper collaboration.

Anwar highlighted that renewable projects require long-term investment, policy clarity and private sector participation. Current funding levels remain insufficient to meet rising demand for sustainable infrastructure, particularly in developing ASEAN economies.
Experts say bridging the financing gap will require blended finance models, multilateral support and regional policy alignment. Stronger partnerships between governments, investors and institutions are seen as critical to scaling up clean energy deployment. ASEAN’s transition pace will ultimately determine its competitiveness in a low-carbon global economy, making urgent cooperation essential.
