China-ASEAN Alliance Launched to Advance Lifelong Learning Through Digital Collaboration

China and ASEAN partners launched a landmark lifelong learning alliance, creating a permanent platform to strengthen digital education, resource sharing, research collaboration, and inclusive learning across all generations.

China-ASEAN Drives Lifelong Learning

KUALA LUMPUR, 3 August 2026 – A major step toward strengthening regional education cooperation was marked with the official launch of the China-ASEAN Alliance for Lifelong Learning during the inaugural International Forum on Digital Empowerment for Lifelong Learning.

The initiative establishes the first permanent multilateral platform dedicated to advancing lifelong education collaboration across the ASEAN region.

The Alliance brings together universities, research institutions, schools, and industry partners committed to promoting inclusive, technology-driven learning. Founding members include Guizhou Open University, Indonesia’s Diponegoro University, the Lao National Institute for Energy and Trade Research, Cambodian-American First International School, Vietnam Hanoi Academy, Australia’s Education Innovation Alliance, and several leading Open Universities from China.

Operating as a voluntary consortium, the Alliance will focus on four priorities: exchanging innovative teaching models, sharing educational resources, jointly developing teaching standards, and advancing collaborative research. These efforts aim to strengthen educational quality while supporting regional knowledge exchange.

Guizhou Open University will serve as the Alliance’s secretariat, coordinating activities and promoting digital technologies that expand access to lifelong learning. The university said it is committed to building an inclusive and accessible learning ecosystem that supports people throughout every stage of life.

The establishment of the Alliance reflects growing consensus between China and ASEAN on the importance of lifelong education in an increasingly digital world.

By creating a structured framework for long-term cooperation, the initiative is expected to enhance educational innovation, strengthen regional partnerships, and support the development of more resilient, inclusive, and future-ready learning systems spanning from early childhood education to post-retirement learning across Asia.
