Tengku Zafrul Aziz, the Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI), launched the Chemical Industry Roadmap 2030 (CIR2030) in collaboration with various key industry stakeholders. The CIR2030 is the first roadmap dedicated to the chemical industry in Malaysia.
It aims to make Malaysia a leading chemical player in the Asia Pacific by focusing on increasing value-added products, enhancing industry integration, and improving sustainability. The chemical industry contributes significantly to Malaysia’s economy, accounting for 6% of GDP and employing around 293,000 workers.
The CIR2030 identifies three priority segments: base chemicals & intermediaries, plastics & polymers, and specialty chemicals. The implementation of CIR2030 is expected to increase the industry’s Gross Value Add (GVA) to more than 4.5% by 2030, adding approximately RM40 billion in value.
