Court Issues Arrest Warrants for Daim’s Sons and Businesswoman
The Magistrate’s Court in Kuala Lumpur has issued warrants of arrest against two sons of the late former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin and a businesswoman for failing to comply with a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) notice to face charges. Magistrate Illi Marisqa Khalizan allowed the prosecution’s application, stating: “I believe the individuals have knowledge of the notices issued by the MACC against them yet they failed to appear. The prosecution’s application has merit and therefore the warrants of arrest are issued.”
Deputy public prosecutor Mahadi Abdul Jumaat told the court the trio had been summoned multiple times but failed to respond. Defence lawyer Muhammad Nizamuddin argued his clients, currently studying in the UK, were given short notice and had no intent to abscond. Following the warrants, the court granted an interim stay pending a proper stay application to be filed on Wednesday.
