The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has filed applications in the Kuala Lumpur High Court to forfeit several assets belonging to the late Daim Zainuddin, his wife, and proxies—including the iconic Ilham Tower.
MACC chief Azam Baki confirmed the complex legal process, citing extensive documentation. Several other assets linked to Daim are expected to undergo similar action soon.
Furthermore, UK authorities have agreed to MACC’s request to freeze assets worth around RM700 million. These include properties and bank accounts in London. A July 9 hearing is set on Daim’s widow Na’imah’s application to intervene in the ongoing asset forfeiture proceedings.
Following that, there have been several other cases directed towards Daim in recent days. A controversial one is regarding to land that is in trust of Daim and others.
The Kuala Lumpur High Court has directed that a 9,723 sq m plot of land housing the Seri Pacific Hotel be transferred to UMNO within 30 days.
The land, held in trust by four former leaders including Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the late Daim Zainuddin, was confirmed as UMNO property under a settlement with the federal territories land office.
Justice Roz Mawar Rozain’s consent judgment cited the Societies Act and National Land Code. Umno’s application, filed by executive secretary Sumali Reduan, sought ownership per the party constitution. The court’s order finalizes the transfer, resolving past resistance from some trustees.
