Court Orders Public Bank to Pay RM90 Million to NFC for Breach of Confidentiality
The Federal Court has ordered Public Bank Bhd to pay RM90 million in damages to National Feedlot Corporation (NFCorp), its chairman Datuk Mohamad Salleh Ismail, and three subsidiaries for breaching bank confidentiality by leaking account details. This follows the court’s earlier decision to dismiss Public Bank’s final appeal in the RM560 million lawsuit. The case stems from a 2012 incident where confidential banking information was accessed and used by then-PKR leader Rafizi Ramli to make allegations against NFC. The court also upheld a prior ruling that the bank violated its statutory duty under Malaysian law.
