Malaysia’s current account surplus narrowed to RM10.8 billion in 2Q26, or 2.0% of GDP, from RM15.2 billion (3.0% of GDP) in the previous quarter. The services account slipped into a marginal deficit after three consecutive quarters of surplus, while the primary income deficit widened on higher profit repatriation by foreign firms.
Current Account
The goods account provided the main support, with the surplus widening to RM40.7 billion amid firmer exports. For the first half of 2026 the current account still recorded a larger-than-expected surplus of RM25.9 billion, equivalent to 2.5% of GDP.
On the strength of the first-half performance, the full-year 2026 current account surplus projection has been raised to 2.0% of GDP from the previous 1.5%.
