Engineer Loses RM275,000 in Moomoo Investment Scam
The Home Ministry has outlined five key reasons Malaysians continue to fall victim to forced-labour syndicates in Cambodia, despite repeated warnings. In a written reply to Padang Serai MP Datuk Azman Nasrudin, the ministry said many are still deceived by fake job offers promising high pay for easy roles such as call centre or investment officers.
Other factors include low awareness of syndicates’ evolving tactics, trust in fellow Malaysians acting as recruiters, failure to verify job offers, and growing economic desperation among jobseekers. The ministry said syndicates exploit victims by offering to handle all travel arrangements, making the scams appear legitimate. It added that offenders can be prosecuted under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007, even when exploitation occurs abroad.
