Future planes may fly on hydrogen produced in Sarawak

Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Openg announced at the Future Energy Asia Exhibition and Summit 2024 in Bangkok that future passenger planes could be powered by hydrogen fuel produced in Sarawak. He highlighted Sarawak’s vision to use hydrogen as a sustainable feedstock for various industries, including aviation, with trials currently underway to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from algae.

Sarawak’s Green Energy Agenda, initiated in 2017, focuses on hydrogen production, storage, and distribution through projects like H2biscus and H2ornbill in Bintulu. These projects aim to produce green and blue hydrogen for local use and export, positioning Sarawak as a leader in the hydrogen economy.
