Glove Sector Stays Neutral Amid Reports of Virus Surge in China Photo by Chokniti Khongchum on Pexels.com
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 6, 2025 – Analysts have maintained a neutral outlook on the glove manufacturing sector despite reports of a surge in respiratory virus infections in China, including Human Metapneumovirus (HPMV). This development comes five years after the Covid-19 pandemic’s emergence in Wuhan.
Malaysia’s Union Health Ministry reported no significant rise in viral respiratory illnesses domestically in December 2024, suggesting limited immediate impact. However, analysts note that China’s domestic glove manufacturers are well-equipped to meet local demand, reducing potential benefits for Malaysian glove producers.
Additionally, a steep increase in tariffs on China-made gloves entering the U.S., effective 2025, is unlikely to alter the outlook for Malaysian companies, as recent stock price rallies since September 2024 have resulted in overvalued shares.
The glove sector remains neutral, with analysts noting that while the potential outbreak highlights the importance of personal protective equipment, the market dynamics remain constrained by global supply and valuation concerns.
