At MWC Barcelona 2025, Bob Chen, President of Huawei Optical Business Product Line, introduced the concept of AI Optical Network (AI ON) to support AI-driven growth. This next-generation optical network evolution aims to provide 5A-quality connectivity, ensuring high performance, reliability, and intelligence in the AI era.
Huawei identifies three key trends shaping the AI era: AI applications, AI computing power, and AI-native capabilities becoming ubiquitous.
To meet these demands, optical networks must evolve with five core characteristics:
1. Awareness – Recognizing service types in real-time to optimize bandwidth, latency, and reliability.
2. Always On Demand – Offering differentiated, real-time connectivity based on specific user needs.
3. Assurance – Ensuring high-quality connectivity with deterministic latency and zero packet loss.
4. Autonomous O&M – Moving from reactive to proactive network maintenance with self-healing capabilities.
5. AI Native – Embedding AI across network elements to enhance performance and intelligence.
Huawei emphasizes that AI ON is essential for the future of connectivity, much like 5A-rated services in hospitality ensure top-tier quality. The company is working with global partners to accelerate this transformation and enable intelligent networking solutions.
Huawei will showcase its latest innovations at stand 1H50, Fira Gran Via Hall 1 during MWC Barcelona 2025. For more details, visit Huawei’s official page.
