KUALA LUMPUR: Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and Open Re Sdn Bhd (OpenRE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop artificial intelligence (AI)-integrated Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) solutions to meet Malaysia’s rising energy demands and accelerate its renewable energy goals.
The partnership focuses on managing Maximum Demand (MD) periods — when electricity usage peaks and costs surge — by deploying AI-powered systems to optimise energy efficiency and reduce operational costs for commercial and industrial users.
OpenRE CEO Dr. Lin Horng Sheng said the collaboration combines Huawei’s world-class BESS hardware with OpenRE’s proprietary AI Energy Demand Response technology, enabling industries to achieve smarter, carbon-neutral operations. Huawei Malaysia Vice President Chong Chern Peng said the partnership strengthens Malaysia’s energy-storage ecosystem by integrating digital innovation with clean power solutions.
Huawei will provide Smart PV and BESS technologies, while OpenRE contributes AI-based energy management software and user support.
