Fines
The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has issued RM445,800 in compound fines to Singaporean motorists who entered Malaysia without valid Vehicle Entry Permits (VEP) between July 1 and August 2. A total of 1,489 summonses were issued during Ops Penguatkuasaan VEP, a month-long enforcement operation conducted at key checkpoints including the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) and Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB), as well as other areas in Johor Baru. JPJ senior enforcement director Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan reported that 14,379 foreign-registered vehicles were inspected during the operation. He noted that around 90% of Singaporean vehicle owners had complied with VEP regulations by registering and activating their RFID tags.
As of July 31, over 277,930 VEP RFID tags had been issued. Kifli reminded all foreign vehicle owners that entering Malaysia without a valid VEP is an offence under Section 66H(7) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and said enforcement will continue.
