Law Firm Faces Scrutiny Over Hijab-Related Dismissals in Mauritius
Mauritius’ Labour Minister Reza Uteem confirmed that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is reviewing the dismissal of two female employees from law firm ENSafrica Mauritius. The women claim they were suspended and subsequently terminated for wearing the hijab. If the DPP finds that Article 5 of the Workers’ Rights Act — which prohibits workplace discrimination — was violated, legal action may follow. The two former staff members also filed complaints with the Equal Opportunity Commission in late June. The Attorney General’s office is now in discussions to strengthen legal protections against workplace discrimination.
