Malaysia to Launch Armed Forces Cyber and Electronic Defence Command in December 12 226kg (500lb) laser-guided bombs and four Lockheed Martin AGM-114P Hellfire air-to-surface missiles. The MQ-9 Reaper is a medium-to-high altitude, long endurance remotely piloted aircraft system. The MQ-9's primary mission is to act as an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) asset, employing sensors to provide real-time data to commanders and intelligence specialists at all levels.
Malaysia’s Armed Forces Cyber and Electronic Defence Command is expected to be launched in December as part of the nation’s shift toward a smart military. The initiative was outlined by Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari, who stated that defence modernisation is being driven by artificial intelligence, automated weapon systems and enhanced cyber warfare capacities.
The new command will function as the core hub for cyber and electromagnetic operations within the military. Its development will be carried out in phases under the 13th Malaysia Plan. Eight reskilling focus areas have been identified for Armed Forces personnel, covering AI-enabled land, sea and air surveillance, drone operations, cyber defence, unmanned vehicles, smart weapon systems, communication systems, training simulators and logistics management. The approach is intended to support operations in an increasingly digital battlespace.
