Malaysia businesses are experiencing the sharpest rise in one of the most dangerous forms of cyber threats in Southeast Asia.
According to Kaspersky, backdoor attacks targeting businesses in Malaysia surged by 86% year-on-year in 2025 – the highest increase recorded across the region. Backdoors allow attackers to gain and maintain hidden access to systems, often operating undetected for extended periods.

Across Southeast Asia, more than 3 million backdoor-related incidents were detected in 2025, alongside over 46 million on-device threats, highlighting how attackers are leveraging both online and offline entry points to compromise business environments.
As Malaysia continues to strengthen its role in supply chains and adopt hybrid practices, this growing exposure presents a timely concern for organisations operating in increasingly connected environments.
