KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 — Malaysia and China are deepening regional trade ties through a twin hub cargo partnership linking Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport. Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the initiative, born from a 2024 MoU between Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad and China Henan Aviation Group, positions KLIA as a key ASEAN cargo hub.
Cargo volumes on the KUL-Zhengzhou route surged from 437 tonnes in 2023 to 11,635 tonnes as of September 2025, with weekly flights rising from three to ten. Shipments include Chinese e-commerce exports and Malaysian fresh fruits. Loke highlighted KLIA’s world-class logistics, free commercial zone and multimodal connectivity as strengths in supporting global supply chains. Henan Governor Wang Kai added the forum established a platform for expanded cooperation in air transport and agriculture.
