Step up monitoring for harmful content, govt tells TikTok, Meta
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has introduced the Guidelines on Information and Network Security (INSG) to strengthen cybersecurity in the communications and multimedia industry. Although non-mandatory, the guidelines provide a best-practices framework for service providers under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, encouraging them to enhance their cybersecurity readiness, mitigate risks, and protect consumers from online threats. Developed with input from various stakeholders, including cybersecurity experts and government bodies, the INSG aims to improve network resiliency and trust in Malaysia’s digital ecosystem without imposing additional regulations. Other industries may also adopt the guidelines for cybersecurity improvements.
