The Malaysian Male Nurses Association (MMN) opposes the Health Ministry’s plan to increase nurses’ workweek from 42 to 45 hours, set to begin June 1. The MMN warns that the extended hours could lead to physical, mental, and emotional strain, increasing fatigue, clinical errors, and mental health issues among nurses. The association emphasizes that nurses are not robots and that the change could compromise healthcare quality. Amid criticism from nursing and labor groups, who fear burnout and reduced patient care, the MMN calls for maintaining the current 42-hour workweek or reducing it to 40 hours, urging fair treatment for nurses ahead of International Nurses Day on May 12.
