Malaysia Postpones 45-Hour Work Week for Government Nurses to August 1, Final Extension Granted

The implementation of a 45-hour work week for government nurses in Malaysia, originally set to end on June 1, has been postponed to August 1, 2025, following a two-month extension of the interim moratorium by the Public Service Department (JPA). The Health Ministry’s secretary-general announced in a May 28 letter that this is the final extension, urging hospitals to comply with the new working hours starting August 1. Nurses have opposed the change, citing concerns over work-life balance and increased workload. The moratorium was previously extended from March 1 to May 31 at the Health Ministry’s request.
