GEORGE TOWN, Aug 21 — Penang has reaffirmed its position as Malaysia’s leading medical tourism hub after generating RM888.7 million in revenue from 412,944 foreign patients last year, according to Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow. As of August 18 this year, the state has already welcomed 213,032 patients, contributing RM461.4 million. While Penang’s share of the national medical tourism market has dipped from 60% to over 40% amid competition from other states, revenue continues to grow. Chow highlighted ongoing investments, including the new Icon Sunsuria Cancer Centre at Island Hospital, which doubles capacity and introduces advanced cancer care services.
