Muhyiddin Yassin blast gov't on sst expansion
Perikatan Nasional unveiled its 12-pillar Sabah election manifesto one week before polling day, positioning itself as the coalition to reset state governance, safeguard Sabah’s wealth and tighten oversight of natural resources. Central to the plan is the RM10 billion Sabah Future Fund, a sovereign wealth fund which PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin said would secure long-term returns from state resources. “We want to make sure the wealth of Sabah is shared today and protected for future generations,” he said at the launch in Putatan, attended by about 1,000 supporters.
The manifesto mirrors some pledges made earlier by Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, including the establishment of a sovereign wealth fund, but PN added its own emphasis on revenue rights. Muhyiddin renewed the coalition’s push to enforce Sabah’s 40 percent federal revenue entitlement, calling it a constitutional obligation.
A major part of PN’s pitch is an overhaul of the mining sector, following public concerns over irregular licensing and opaque mineral concessions. Muhyiddin said Sabahans had “not fully enjoyed the benefits of its rich mineral deposits.” PN proposes a dedicated ministry for minerals, a white paper on past decisions and a restructuring of agencies overseeing the sector to ensure a system that is “transparent, efficient and accountable.”
Infrastructure upgrades form another key plank, with PN promising RM3 billion to address water supply problems, poor roads and electricity instability, alongside a RM500 million flood-mitigation plan. The coalition also targets economic growth by doubling tourist arrivals, boosting agriculture and fisheries, and creating 80,000 jobs by 2030.
PN is contesting 42 seats, with Sabah voters heading to the polls on Nov 29.
