On March 22, 2025, PROTON, a Malaysian automaker, launched its electric vehicle (EV), the Proton e.MAS 7, in Nepal at the Regency Ballroom Hotel Hyatt Boudha, marking its entry into the country’s rapidly growing EV market. The event was attended by key figures from PROTON and its authorized distributor in Nepal, Jagdamba Motors Pvt. Ltd., alongside Malaysia’s Chargé d’Affaires in Nepal, Mohammad Firdaus Azman. The launch follows the model’s success in Malaysia since its debut on December 16 and aligns with PROTON’s broader international expansion strategy.
Nepal’s EV sector has seen remarkable growth, with the penetration rate rising from 6% of total industry volume (TIV) in 2021 to 73% in 2024—a nine-fold increase from 1,138 to 10,794 units—making PROTON’s entry timely. Jagdamba Motors currently operates three dealerships and plans to expand to 12 by the end of 2025, alongside developing charging infrastructure and service centers to support EV adoption. The e.MAS 7, a C-segment vehicle built on the Global Modular Architecture platform, is offered in Prime and Premium variants and six color options, featuring advanced technologies like a 12-in-1 electric propulsion system and Aegis Short-Blade Battery.
