RAF Typhoons
LONDON, Sept 21 — The Royal Air Force (RAF) launched Typhoon fighter jets and a Voyager tanker from RAF Coningsby late yesterday to conduct air defence patrols over eastern Poland, marking Britain’s latest contribution to NATO’s Eastern Sentry mission. The operation followed a series of Russian airspace incursions, including Friday’s breach of Estonian airspace by three MiG-31s and earlier drone crossings into Poland and Romania.
The patrols underscore NATO’s commitment to bolstering its eastern flank after Warsaw invoked Article 4 of the NATO Treaty.
Eastern Sentry, activated last week, has drawn contributions from Germany, Denmark, France and the United States.
By joining these efforts, Britain reinforced its role as a frontline NATO ally, responding swiftly to Moscow’s actions.
While Russia has dismissed concerns and accused NATO of escalating tensions, alliance leaders say the rapid deployments demonstrate readiness to defend member states.
