RM31 million Pastor Koh Damages Locked in Amanah Raya Trust Until Missing Pastor Found
KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has ordered the RM31 million damages awarded to missing Pastor Raymond Koh be placed in a trust managed by Amanah Raya Berhad until he is located.
Justice Su Tiang Joo approved the arrangement Monday after Susanna Liew, Koh’s wife, and government lawyers agreed on the state-owned trustee due to its low fees and appeal-proof structure.
The award – comprising RM10,000 daily from the 13 Feb 2017 abduction, RM1mil general damages and RM1mil exemplary damages – stems from the court’s November ruling that police and government were liable for Koh’s enforced disappearance.
Lawyer Datuk Jerald Gomez said the funds will earn interest and remain untouched “until Koh’s whereabouts can be identified or revealed.” The government is appealing the original judgment.
Koh was abducted by masked men in Kelana Jaya almost nine years ago; his fate remains unknown.
