On December 19, 2024, Senai International Airport (managed by Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn. Bhd.) conducted a full-scale emergency exercise to assess the effectiveness of its “Airport Emergency Plan” (AEP). The simulation, involving over 200 participants, recreated a scenario of an aircraft crash during landing, complete with fire and injuries.
The exercise focused on the “3Cs” — Communication, Coordination, and Control — to enhance emergency response efficiency. Key stakeholders included emergency services, medical responders, and regulatory authorities. Agencies such as the Fire and Rescue Department, Royal Malaysia Police, and hospitals collaborated, while 100 UTM students acted as injured passengers.
Senai Airport CEO, Mr. Kennedy Ayu, emphasized the importance of identifying and addressing gaps to strengthen preparedness. Mandated by the Civil Aviation Authority Malaysia (CAAM) and in line with ICAO standards, the drill demonstrated the airport’s commitment to safety and readiness for emergencies.
