KKH Singapore Uses 3D-Printed Helmets to Treat Rising Flat-Head Syndrome Cases in Infants
KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) in Singapore uses custom 3D-printed helmets to treat infants with flat-head syndrome, a condition where the skull becomes misshapen due to prolonged positioning. These helmets, worn nearly all the time, gently guide the skull into a rounded, symmetrical shape. Due to rising parental awareness, KKH saw a 36% increase in cases, from over 800 in 2022 to over 1,000 in 2024, prompting the launch of the KKH PlagioCentre. This specialized clinic employs a multidisciplinary team of neonatologists, physiotherapists, and orthotics experts to assess and treat infants, ensuring no underlying developmental issues contribute to the condition.
