Trump's economic regime could fuel inflation and disrupt trade flows
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 — United States President Donald Trump is set to visit Malaysia later this month as part of his upcoming Asia tour, which will also include stops in Japan and South Korea. The visit marks Trump’s first trip to the region since beginning his nonconsecutive second term in January.
According to Japanese government sources, Trump will attend the Asean Summit in Kuala Lumpur from Oct 26 to 28 before heading to Tokyo and Seoul. He is also expected to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea to discuss trade and regional security.
Trump told reporters at the White House that he hopes to strengthen economic ties and “be good to China,” despite ongoing trade tensions. However, his visit has drawn criticism from some Malaysian political figures, including PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, who vowed to organise demonstrations over Trump’s support for Israel.
