Major challenges for 200 companies affected by Putra Heights blaze: FMM
PETALING JAYA – Approximately 200 industrial firms in Putra Heights are grappling with significant operational challenges following a gas pipeline explosion on April 1, according to the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM). The blaze, which destroyed 87 houses and 225 vehicles, has disrupted gas supply, threatening production stoppages and financial losses for manufacturers reliant on a steady gas flow.
FMM President Soh Thian Lai noted, “Even those with robust business continuity plans are not spared, as their suppliers, many of whom lack such contingency measures, are equally affected.” Gas supply is expected to resume by April 20, but the disruption could impact exports, employment, and investor confidence in the Klang Valley.
Soh highlighted the broader implications, stating, “It could potentially undermine investor confidence in the Klang Valley, which serves as the home of numerous multinational companies and large industries.”
To cope, industries are exploring temporary solutions like transporting liquefied natural gas via tanker lorries, with Soh urging authorities to approve such measures swiftly
