Abu Sahid Granted Passport Release for Daughter's UK University Trip
KUALA LUMPUR, 19 December 2025 – The Sessions Court has permitted business tycoon Tan Sri Abu Sahid Mohamed, 74, temporary release of his passport to travel to London from January 12 to 28, 2026, to enrol his daughter in university. Judge Suzana Hussin ordered the passport returned on Friday (Dec 19) and surrendered back by January 30.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Fadhly Mohd Zamry sought an additional condition barring Abu Sahid from accessing alleged UK bank accounts, citing sections 388 and 389 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
However, defence lawyer Jasbeer Singh Kaura objected, questioning evidence of such accounts and noting Abu Sahid’s frozen Malaysian accounts would leave no funds for expenses.
The judge dismissed the prosecution’s application. Abu Sahid, a Maju Holdings director, faces five CBT charges involving RM458.5 million and 13 money laundering charges totalling over RM139 million from 2016-2019. Convictions carry severe penalties, including up to 20 years’ jail and fines.
