Apple Stays Committed to Indonesia Despite US Trade Deal

A senior Indonesian official says Apple will continue its investment plans in Indonesia despite a new US-Indonesia trade deal eliminating tariffs and non-tariff barriers. Apple, via its Chinese vendor Luxshare-ICT, is building an AirTag factory in Batam, with production expected by December. Although initial reports valued the investment at $1 billion, officials now cite $200 million for the factory and $160 million for R&D facilities. Concerns arose over the deal’s impact as the US has pressured Indonesia to remove its 35% local content requirement for 4G-LTE devices, but the government remains confident Apple will proceed as planned.
