WormingUp is leading ASEAN-GIC under eYAA Cohort 6, empowering Sarawak educators with sustainability knowledge while strengthening regional youth volunteer collaboration for future green economy education initiatives.
Fly Technology Agriculture Sdn Bhd (WormingUp) is spearheading the ASEAN Guru Innovation Challenge (ASEAN-GIC) under Maybank and the ASEAN Foundation’s eMpowering Youths Across ASEAN (eYAA): Cohort 6 to strengthen sustainability education and prepare future green economy leaders in Sarawak.
The initiative comes as Malaysia advances its digital and climate-resilient economy, placing greater emphasis on equipping students with skills in sustainability and agricultural innovation.
In Sarawak, where many communities rely on agriculture and natural resources, schools continue to face challenges integrating these subjects into everyday teaching.
To help bridge this gap, WormingUp is leading ASEAN-GIC through a five-day Regional Capacity Building Workshop held from July 2 to 6 at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok.
The programme gathered 110 youth volunteers alongside representatives from civil society organisations and social enterprises across ASEAN to exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships and develop practical solutions for local communities.
Participants are expected to apply the knowledge gained to empower educators with innovative teaching approaches that promote environmental stewardship, sustainable agriculture and green entrepreneurship among students.
The latest eYAA cohort also marks two milestones. Lao PDR joined the programme as an implementing country for the first time, while Timor-Leste’s accession as ASEAN’s 11th member state increased the number of youth volunteers from 100 to 110.
The programme coincides with the United Nations General Assembly’s designation of 2026 as the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development, highlighting the growing importance of volunteerism in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals and building resilient, inclusive communities across Southeast Asia.
