US official: Asian nations seeking US oil is part of Trump’s Agenda

While there is a surge in demand for U.S. Oil with Asian buyers rushing to secure U.S. crude in the largest volumes seen in three years, the US interior Secretary linked the development to President Donald Trump’s energy dominance agenda.

Roughly 60 million barrels loaded from the US to Asia for April 2026, the highest level since April 2023.

US Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said Asian nations are seeking more oil and gas from the United States as the Middle East conflict enters its fourth week.

US oil

Burgum told CNBC that Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan have expressed interest in increasing purchases from the US.

He linked this to President Donald Trump’s energy dominance agenda, which aims to provide allies with alternatives to Russia and Iran and countries that declares war against the US and backs terrorists.

Burgum added that abundant US energy could foster global peace. He highlighted Alaska’s LNG project as a cornerstone for supplying Asia, noting that US Pacific territories also depend heavily on foreign oil.

In 2024, the US Energy Information Administration estimated that 84% of crude oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz were bound for Asia, along with 83% of liquefied natural gas.
