British Council Celebrates Malaysian Alumni Driving Change at Study UK Awards 2026
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb. 4, 2026: The British Council’s Study UK Alumni Awards Malaysia 2026 honoured four outstanding Malaysians who are alumni of UK universities, recognising their transformative contributions across industries and society. In its seventh edition, the awards spotlighted Dr Rebecca Tay Sook Hui (Business and Innovation), Dr Hor Chee Peng (Science and Sustainability), Matthew Tan Yi Jian (Culture, Creativity and Sport), and Tan Shi Min (Social Action). Dr Rebecca, a University of Nottingham alumna, pioneered accessible pharmacogenomics and precision medicine, shaping national health policies.
Dr Hor, from the University of Edinburgh, was commended for leading pandemic preparedness and response, marking the first recognition of a fully online degree. Oxford graduate Matthew Tan was celebrated for his documentary and role in nurturing Malaysian filmmakers. Tan Shi Min, a UCL and Plymouth Marjon alumna, impacted rural education through her Wheel of Learning initiative. The awards highlight the global impact of UK education, reinforcing its role in shaping leaders, innovators, and changemakers.
