C-Suite Takes Charge as OT Cybersecurity Maturity Rises, Fortinet Report Finds

Fortinet’s 2025 report shows a significant rise in executive accountability for operational technology (OT) cybersecurity, with 95% of organizations now assigning responsibility to C-suite leaders, up from 41% in 2022. The study highlights that improved OT cybersecurity maturity and the adoption of best practices—such as network segmentation, vendor consolidation, and tailored threat intelligence—are effectively minimizing intrusion impacts and strengthening operational resilience.

OT Cybersecurity

The seventh Fortinet OT Cybersecurity Report shows growing seriousness toward OT security, with more C-suite leaders now accountable and organizations reporting higher security maturity. This has led to fewer intrusion impacts. According to Fortinet’s SVP Nirav Shah, securing critical OT systems requires full commitment and proper resource allocation from leadership down.

Fortinet’s 2025 report reveals that 95% of organizations are now assigning responsibility to C-suite roles—52% specifically to the CISO or CSO, up from 16% in 2022. OT cybersecurity maturity is improving, with more firms reaching Level 1 or 2 maturity, leading to fewer and less severe attacks. Mature organizations are better equipped to handle lower-level threats, and operational outages affecting revenue have dropped from 52% to 42%. The adoption of best practices like segmentation, training, and cyber hygiene is contributing to enhanced resilience and reduced intrusion impact across industries.
