OpenAI and Nvidia
China’s state media-affiliated outlet Yuyuan Tantian has warned that Nvidia’s H20 artificial intelligence chips may have security vulnerabilities, including potential “hardware backdoors” enabling remote shutdown. The chips, developed for China after US export restrictions in 2023, are also criticised as neither technologically advanced nor environmentally friendly. The warning follows Beijing’s cyberspace watchdog summoning Nvidia on July 31 to address possible backdoor risks, which the company denies. People’s Daily earlier urged Nvidia to provide proof to reassure Chinese users and restore trust.
