Huawei reclaimed its top position in the Chinese smartphone market after facing US sanctions, buoyed by the success of the Mate 60 Pro and the return of the Kirin chipset.
The domestic market rebounded by 6.5 percent in Q1 2024, with the Chinese company benefiting from improved production and supply of its flagship Mate 60 series.
The release of the nova 12 series and the innovative Pura 70 further contributed to Huawei’s resurgence, showcasing its commitment to offering premium and innovative smartphones across different price ranges.
Meanwhile, Apple faced a challenging quarter in China, with sales dropping 19.1% year-on-year in Q1, attributed to Huawei’s resurgence impacting the premium segment. Counterpoint Research highlighted intense competition, with Vivo leading with 17.5% market share, followed by Honor and Apple.
The sub-brand grew 69% year-on-year. Analysts anticipate Apple’s potential rebound, citing upcoming product launches and aggressive sales initiatives.
China remains pivotal for Apple’s manufacturing and sales strategies, with expectations for positive growth driven by new product offerings and potential advancements in AI features.
