Johor Port Boosts Container Handling with Arrival of Two New Quay Cranes
PASIR GUDANG, Sept 19 – Johor Port Berhad has enhanced its container handling capacity with the arrival of two Post Panamax Quay Cranes worth RM71.2 million, manufactured by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC). The new equipment will improve turnaround time for vessels and support growing trade volumes at the Southern Gateway Multi-Purpose Port of Malaysia.
The investment is part of Johor Port’s Five-Year CAPEX Enhancement Plan, which also includes new level luffing cranes and additional quay cranes by 2027. Port officials say the upgrades will strengthen Malaysia’s logistics sector and support the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone by boosting efficiency and reliability.
In August 2025, Johor Port recorded its highest-ever monthly throughput of 103,159 TEUs, despite ongoing crane removal works. Shipping Association of Malaysia, Southern Region, praised the move, stating: “The arrival of the new quay cranes will further strengthen the port’s container handling capabilities and enhance vessel turnaround time.”
