KUALA LUMPUR – Yesterday was Labour Day in Malaysia as in many parts of the world and Trip.com came up with useful data which tells us where people hang out or travel during such a holiday. Remember, the holiday happened right in the middle of the week.
Some are taking the opportunity to enjoy an extended break of several days to unwind and explore over the holiday also known as May Day, which spans from 1 to 5 May 2024 in countries such as China.
According to Trip.com Group’s latest data, Asia is the hottest travel destination during this Labour Day Holiday period among travellers worldwide, with cities such as Tokyo, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Seoul and Taipei leading the pack in holiday momentum.
Ms Stephane Thong, General Manager, Trip.com Malaysia, says: “Travellers to Malaysia are seeking unique experiences such as historical and beach tourism.
“The country is well-positioned to take advantage of popular travel periods such as Labour Day as we offer a diverse range of tourism options for travellers, which can all be booked on Trip.com’s all-in-one platform.
“We are happy to showcase the many sights of Malaysia to the world, through campaigns such as our recently launched SUPER SEA campaign.”

Trip.com Group’s data shows that the most popular Malaysian cities for travellers besides Kuala Lumpur during the Labour Day Holiday are Kota Kinabalu, Penang, Langkawi and Semporna.
Interestingly, Tawau is among the top five most popular cities for Chinese travellers, which is home to the world’s third largest cocoa-producing area and offers both land and sea experiences.
The most popular Malaysian attractions during this holiday period are Mataking Island and Mabul Island, the Petronas Twin Towers, and The Stadthuys.
This illustrates the diverse preferences of holidaymakers, which range from scuba diving in the state of Sabah to witnessing the marvellous city landscape in Kuala Lumpur, to immersing oneself in Malacca’s multi-cultural heritage.
