Klang Families Face Heartbreaking Evictions as State Moves Into Action
KAMPUNG Papan, Pandamaran – The homes of long-time villagers in Kampung Papan, Klang, are being demolished by developer Melati Ehsan Consolidated, leaving families who have lived there for over three decades devastated. Police have detained several residents attempting to resist the demolition, enforcing a court order favoring the developer. Despite lacking formal proof of ownership, residents considered themselves rightful occupants, having called these homes their own for generations.
A similar fate looms for 19 families in Kampung Jawa, Batu Ampat, where the state land office demands eviction to make way for the West Coast Expressway, offering compensation far below independent valuations. These families, unlike Kampung Papan, are bona fide landowners, yet the state appears to prioritize corporate interests over people’s livelihoods. Questions arise over the sale of state land and the rush to demolish before court hearings. The situation highlights a deep imbalance between development and human rights, leaving affected communities in despair.
