Malaysia’s trade rebounded in July, recording its highest-ever monthly value at RM265.92bil, driven mainly by strong exports of electrical and electronic (E&E) products. According to the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (Miti), exports rose 6.8% year-on-year (y-o-y) to RM140.45bil, underpinned by a 22.5% surge in E&E shipments worth RM63.31bil. This momentum helped sustain a trade surplus of RM14.98bil for the 63rd consecutive month. Trade with Asean and China strengthened, while trade with the US fell due to lower imports. Manufactured exports climbed 9% to RM122.14bil, offsetting declines in agriculture and mining goods. For January-July 2025, trade expanded 4.7% to RM1.73 trillion, with exports at RM900.47bil. Miti said the positive performance reflects an improving global trade outlook, with E&E remaining Malaysia’s key growth driver.
