Malaysia and Italy have agreed to establish a strategic defence partnership, including a proposed government-to-government (G2G) memorandum of understanding on asset procurement. Announced by Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin after meeting Italian counterpart Guido Crosetto in Berlin, the partnership aims to deepen ties beyond procurement, emphasizing technology transfer to bolster Malaysia’s local defence industry. Italy expressed interest in transparent, cost-effective G2G acquisitions, similar to Malaysia’s agreements with Türkiye and potential cooperation with South Korea.
