Malaysia Unveils MARS1000 First Homegrown Edge AI Processor
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 25 — Malaysia has launched its first locally designed and developed edge AI processor, the MARS1000, introduced by semiconductor designer SkyeChip Sdn Bhd. Built on 7-nanometer process technology, the smart IoT chip is designed to power applications in smart agriculture, Industrial 4.0, smart cities, intelligent traffic, and safe city systems. SkyeChip CEO Fong Swee Kiang said the processor provides cost-effective, efficient and AI-ready solutions while nurturing an AI-literate workforce in Malaysia.
Also launched was EdgeMind, a locally developed Edge AI system by Elliance Sdn Bhd, aimed at democratising AI adoption across industries, agriculture, and education. The system allows faster and more affordable AI deployment, helping build Malaysia’s AI ecosystem.
Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association (MSIA) president Datuk Seri Wong Siew Hai said semiconductor exports grew 15.7% in the first half of 2025, reinforcing Malaysia’s vision to become a global hub for IC design, advanced packaging, and smart manufacturing.
