Meta Rejects Claims of Profiting from Scam Ads, Calls Reports “Selective View”
KUALA LUMPUR — Meta has denied claims that it profited from online scams, calling leaked reports alleging billions in fraudulent ad revenue a “selective view.” A company spokesperson said Meta actively combats scams, noting such content is undesirable for users, advertisers, and the platform itself, NST reported.
Reuters previously reported that around 10% of Meta’s global revenue, or US$16 billion, came from scam-linked ads. Malaysian authorities are taking the matter seriously, with Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil noting potential local impact of over RM250 million. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has summoned Meta for clarification and is reviewing takedown requests.
