Najib’s House Arrest Bid: Federal Court to Decide AG’s Appeal on Aug 13

The Federal Court will decide on August 13 whether Attorney-General Dusuki Mokhtar can appeal against the leave granted to Najib Razak to pursue a judicial review enforcing a supposed royal decree for house arrest. Najib seeks to validate an alleged Jan 29, 2024, addendum order from then-King Al-Sultan Abdullah allowing him to serve his sentence at home. The Court of Appeal had earlier allowed Najib to adduce new evidence, including affidavits from his son and other leaders. AG Dusuki recently conceded the order exists but questioned its validity. Najib’s lawyer said, “The merits could’ve been heard if the AG confirmed it earlier.”
